Dawn Will Save Your Clothes!

Who’da thunk that Dawn would go even further than your dirty pans and dishes?!
So I was finally able to join the 21st century back in February when my washing machine finally kicked the bucket and DH FINALLY agreed we could get a new one. I got a fab-u-lus deal on a Samsung Steam front loading set, but I’ll save that for another post. Y’all know that I make my own laundry detergent which I love. It will work with my HE but you pour it into the barrel rather than the dispenser. Well, I went out and bought some of that All Small & Mighty to use between running out of mine and making some. Of course I bought that stuff back when you had the dual coupon deal $2 off + $1 off from Target making it $1. Well, I finally ran out of mine and had to use it. Oddly enough after several loads, I was noticing grease stains on clothing that didn’t have grease stains going in. My clothes were ruined! I mean, I only have a few staples of clothing I mix and match for work.
I tried to rack my brain. I know sometimes washing machines will leak grease when stuff starts to go bad…but I didn’t think that was the problem because it’s brand new. So, I went and made some more of my homemade laundry detergent and ran out some unaffected clothes. They came out fine. I ran out another load with my homemade detergent…they were fine too. Ah ha….so it must’ve been the All detergent. Strange. I never could figure it out what would make that happen but the proof was in the clothes.
Which brings us back to the damaged clothing. Everything had some type of grease spot on them. They had even been dried so I just knew the stains were set. In enters Dawn. Dawn cuts grease right? It works on heavy duty greased up pots and pans why not clothes? I have tons of bottles of Dawn. They were free so why not right? I figured that the clothes were already ruined, so if the Dawn messed them up it wouldn’t be a loss. I took some clothes to the kitchen sink. I then poured Dawn on each stain, dropped just a little water on it, and scrubbed it in for a good minute. I let it each item sit while I proceeded to the next damaged item. After I was all done, I turned on the hot water and sprayed (with sprayer) each stain till it was no longer sudsy. I then put it in the wash with my homemade laundry detergent. After drying, 2 pieces had no stains while the other 2 had faded stains. For those 2, I just retreated with Dawn as I did above and after washing again in my own detergent they came out perfect! Boy was I relieved!
So, before you send something clothing to the trash, make sure you try some Dawn on it!
