How To Make Powdered Sugar

Do you ever find yourself in the beginnings of a baking project only to notice that it requires powdered sugar? Of course, since you already started it’s a rule that you’re not going to have any in the cabinet. What to do?! I’ll tell you. You take:

  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
Pour both into your blender and blend for 1 minute. The sugar will then be powdered and ready to use!

For me, there’s really no reason to keep powdered sugar in the house because I don’t use it that often. I mean, at my store it’s close to $2 for a 2lb bag. So, whenever a recipe calls for powdered sugar, I just do that process real quick. I use what I need and what I don’t goes into a ziplock bag for next time. If you already have sugar in the house, this is a more frugal choice.
