Keeping the Kids Safe for Free

It was too cute. DH came to me and wanted to add something to the blog. He’s our tech guru at our house and he wanted to share something with you mommies. Now we all know what a wonderful blessing the internet can be and we also know what a hazard it can be as well. There’s a million and one products out on the market right now that either monitor or change settings on your computer for you to keep those hazards away from your children. Of course those products do come at a premium. However, DH brought up the website www.opendns.com . With this website it gives you step by step (including picture tutorials) on how to change your DNS settings so that you may filter out the following for FREE:

Now I know what you’re saying as you’re reading this…because I said the same thing to DH. “That sounds really difficult…I’d be scared I’d mess something up”. DH assured me that it was super simple and that the picture tutorials really helped.

All you have to do was change your settings, make an account with OpenDNS, and simply control your settings from your dashboard. Upon my further research, it OpenDNS did not look as intimidating as once thought. A super plus is that OpenDNS also offers free Webinars to learn more about the system. As far as reputation goes, OpenDNS is partners with NetGear which is a very reputable router/computer product company. I really think it’s worth checking out…if not for your family do it for DH so he feels like he really contributed. :D

Wow, what a great resource to know about! With seven kids and four computers in the house that connect to the internet (we homeschool) it would be nice to have this knowledge. Thanks so much!
