Hey, did you know that October is National CyberSecurity Awareness Month and National Crime Prevention Month? In celebration I thought it’d be great to discuss donating money online! I know that we all have been asked at some point or another to donate money to some cause. As we continue to get closer to the holidays, those requests will continue to grow. Yes, I did mention “holidays”. In case you haven’t been keeping track, there’s only 71 days till Christmas. *GASP* Of course, I’ll save that chaos for another post. Anyways, personally, I make a lot of donations online closer to the holidays. Usually these donations are for children groups to help buy gifts, and also to our local children’s hospital. Security is a big issue to me, and I know a lot of people try to avoid the whole donating money online and keep it to cash or check only just to avoid the risk. Hey, that’s understandable and if that works for you, more power to you! As for me, I’m very impatient and I need that instant “warm and fuzzy” feeling so I just make sure I watch my step when donating online.
LifeLock is here to help you watch your step when making these dealings online! Among the several great tips about making donations online safely that LifeLock offers, there was one that I always look for that you may not be aware of. When you’re donating money online or entering ANY personal information, make sure that you see “https://” in the address bar. The “S” means that the website is secure. If you don’t see that, then stop what you’re doing, do not pass go, do not collect $200 and get outta there!
Among all of the donation requests, you need to know who you are donating to. It can certainly get crazy trying to determine who you’d like to donate to, especially if you have several on your plate. So make sure you do your research. Scammers do everything they can to look as legit as possible. Nothing is worse than having your money stolen. Even worse, at the holidays. So make sure to stay safe and know that LifeLock has got your back.
Hey, remember how I mentioned last month about the LifeLock for Life Sweepstakes on Facebook? Well, this month’s questions revolve around being safe donating money online!
