Thanksgiving With Kikkoman Review and Giveaway (closed)

Kikkoman recently offered me chance to make a test turkey in preparation for Thanksgiving. They had a unique take on Thanksgiving that they wanted me to try. It was to be a turkey brined in soy sauce. Of course I welcomed the opportunity. My love affair with food does not allow me to be close minded.
My non-close mindedness didn’t come without concerns though. I had a taste in my head that soy sauce provided from the many Asian dishes I’ve tried. To be honest I didn’t think those two would go together. Nevertheless, I made it anyways. I’m always welcome to yummy surprises!

Kikkoman made me aware that using soy sauce with the turkey would provide umami or a savoriness. Umami is the fifth primary flavor:
Umami is a fifth taste that we can perceive, in addition to sweet, sour, salty and bitter. Umami is what gives naturally brewed soy sauce its special typical flavour.
I followed the recipe and instructions to a T. Since this was only the second turkey I’ve ever made (see first here) I didn’t want to go rouge and combine something that may not end up being so great. I prepared everything and let the turkey soak overnight in the brine. It was pretty easy to put together. The only thing I suggest is to make sure you have a large section of the refrigerator cleared out.
I really had to give myself a pat on the back. Surprisingly enough, the turkey came out fantastic. It had a nice roasted color and my goodness it was it juicy. It was really quite good. Like hum while you eat good. My husband is a brutally honest man. I was excited that he thought it was great! The flavor was nothing I would’ve expected. It did not have that Asian taste that I was thinking in my head! This is totally a recipe that I will be using from now on!
Kikkoman provided me with several recipes to try out the leftovers ( click here to try some out yourself). Usually with turkey leftovers we make turkey sandwiches to take for lunch. Bland right? Well, I tried out the tasty tetrazzini. We loved it! It was quite yummy and super easy to make!
I am now a total believer in using soy sauce in unexpected places!
